Do No Evil

Google's informal corporate motto Don't Be Evil sometimes incorrectly stated as Do No Evil
That's one of the umpteen things the Google guys where smart about. They did not draw a line on  whats evil and what's not.
Parsing your mails and keeping a tab on what you search using there omnipresent search engine  and then showing up advertisement that are relevant to you does not fall in their evil do list.
What is evil.Well i am not going to bore you with the all the philosophical answers...
Surprisingly i think i  know the answer to the question and i ll get to that.(Well these days i think i know the answer to almost everything for everything else there is Google )
In Kite Runner one of the handful books that i have read the author talks about the worst sin being theft."When you lie to somebody you steal the right to know the truth.when you kill somebody you steal their life" and it goes on...
In one of the many casual debates we had in our college about useless stuff one such topic was
using pirated software is fine just because we are software engineers but not downloading songs of the internet is not to be frowned upon.Hah!!
What is right and wrong?
The answer to that i say is Its your choice. Its your convenience.Like it do it .Dont like it dont do it.Simple isn't it .But like always its isn't.Because somethings that you might want to do are bad
So then how do you decide
A group of my friends say eating onion is wrong and others love chicken.A businessman makes his livelihood by cheating others ..OK that was a very crudely put but its the harsh reality.Yeah i understand you can do a business ethically but then u are reducing your profits and let me tell you having a family as big as mine and most of them having business the main reason why people do a business is to increase their profits not because they want to see a change in the world For them the only change they would be happy about would be if the change is in their bank balance.Well not bank balance also since most of the money is not green .And i don't blame them the buyer should be smart enough to make a right decision  himself.(That's the business man in me talking)
Well killing mosquitoes during the rainy season that are spreading the dengue in bangalore is not right according to my mom but well as i see it its the survival of the fittest... Its either me or me with dengue and i hate the smell of hospitals so with a mosquito racket(Made in china... of course) every day i kill mosquitoes that are breeding next to my house thanks to the Bhel corner next to my place that dumps all its waste down the road and thanks to the BBMP who are not cleaning it.
And coming back to the worst sin I beg to differ from Khalid Hosseini the guy who wrote Kite Runner .
The worst sin is the one you know about and you still do it .
Knowing that wasting food is bad and still doing it is a crime.Well i did not realize this until my last days at college where my roommate never wasted a single morsel of food (even though the food was not edible)
Everybody has done some terrible things in their past (Yeah me too!!!) but then i did not know about them then (at least a few).
But doing something wrong even after you know that it ain't right is the biggest crime.Doing wrong not necessarily include you doing bad to someone It could be just you doing bad to yourself
Not taking care of what you eat even after knowing you are overweight is one of the sins that a lot of people do today things(Including my mom :p).Smoking even after the carton has a big scorpion saying smoking kills is one of the things that i don't comprehend how smoker fail to notice Actually failing to notice would not be a bad thing The bad thing is noticing it and still ignoring it .(And there goes half of my readers who will never come back)
Ignorance is not bliss when it you are affected by it.Not switching of computer at end of day and just putting it to sleep could save enough power to may be power a street light under which the next Narayan Murthy might be reading (sorry for the exaggeration:))
I have started listening to english songs And as i understand from my friends who have  been listening to english songs for a long time  Linkin Park is for school kids.So if you dont like them anymore just watch the video with the mute on :) What I've Done
Till Next time DO NO EVIL

It's TIME

In the husky voice of Harish Bhimani the opening dialogue from the epic series of Mahabaharat by B R Chopra telecasted at 11:00 am on Sunday mornings A slot that Aamir Khan aptly selected for his short series of 13 episodes Satyamev Jayate
"Main Samay Hoon Yeh Katha sirf main hi suna sakta hoon"(I am Time only I can tell this story).
Two years ago on this very day a text on my phone and that's how  it came to pass that on  my Mom's birthday I got placed in Citrix (What coincidence right??) .
So this one's for my mom who says "People who don't value Time Time does not value them".
Time stands for two things firstly the time which is a great healer and the other the unit of measurement
Former is a relative term. How time has changed the format of cricket from test to t-20 that people prefer to watch. My first match in the stadium a test match .Could barely sit for 2 hours. Thanks to the binoculars from a friend(Ok i blame the stone steps but still). How time has changed the people keep in touch with their friends.Whatsapp facebook have become an integral part of everyone's life.Whats with the absolute and the incessant need of posting every second of our lives and every thought on the internet.
And the other one is worth talking about more than the first one since its absolute and not relative.Hated relative grading from college where you had to do better than the other guy rather than just doing good.
Take a room full of people from different walks of life and ask them is life is fair and normally the opinion would be nope life ain't fair.Heck on their bad day ask anybody and they would say life ain't fair.
So i had this question what is it that is equal to every one of the 7 billion people on the planet And the answer not surprisingly enough is "Its TIME".From a person in his 60's living of his pension to a businessman in his 50's who has taken his business to new heights to a Managing Director of a large multinational bank in his 40's to a person in 30's who has just started a family to a person in his 20's who has just started his career working for a Indian software company to a teen who is adopting the latest trends in fashion to a kid who has just started attending school to a new born baby from a mothers womb .From president of USA to BBMP Corporators in Bangalore. From Amitabh Bachan to Sachin Tendulkar. From a beggar on the streets to Siddhart Mallya. From a guy in some village in Jharkand to  a guy in city like Pune. From a man dying of cancer to a pregnant mother giving birth to her first child. For a guy who just got fired to guy who just got hired. And finally from me to you .
Every one of us has 24 hours a day and that is it.
It is the only thing i think that is equal to every single man walking this planet(Please do let me know if you know anything that is also equal could be the topic for my next blog :) ).And finally if we are competing with ourselves and nobody else
every day could teach us a new thing that would make us better than what we were yesterday.
Why do we need a tomorrow if we aren't using our today.

The Important Job

What is the most important job in the world???Is it a doctor who is trying to save lives every day.Or a police official whose job is to fight against crime(Though its not happening) or an architect whose decisions could impact thousands of life who take the bridge or flyover to work everyday or a software engineer who ok i don't have anything for a software engineer though i am one.
According to me the most important job is the one who makes all these guys who they are and how good they are at what they do "the teachers" or "the gurus" who hand over their skill to their pupils .I am not just talking about teacher  in school that make sure that you complete your homework on time but all the people from whom you have learnt a skill. That skill could be long division or pottery or even sewing.
And since most of our childhood is spent in the company of our FAMILY they are our first teachers.
I have been blessed with the two most contrasting people as my parents and have learnt a  lot from them.
Moms way of life.Don't waste your time thinking about the future just think about tomorrow And live to eat
She just loves to cook and can cook almost anything that is vegetarian .She is one of the most productive person i have known not wasting even a moment of her life .Her schedule is more jam packed than a ceo of a company and mind you she is a house wife.Busy Sometimes so much that she has hardly time for  me:) .
Dads motto .Health is Wealth  & Wealth is everything
Even at 48 he can walk more than i can and is fitter than i am (ok i have never liked excersice and never been the athletic type) .His eating timing are so perfect  that it would give the german railway system a run for its money (i wish i could  write the indian railway system).Lot of people still tell that he looks like my elder brother .
And since i have mentioned family as the first teacher i would like to mention my sister who always listens to her heart She from very young age knows what she wants and thats the reason i am jealous of her.Her confidence is admirable even a day before exam without any preparation .She wants to become an artist and i think she is pretty good at it

In  the movie kung fu panda where the panda(Po) becomes the dragon warrior with the help of his master(Shifu) is a great example of how  a great teacher can transform someone.
I remember joining BASE(Coaching institute for IIT) fresh out of school without any clue about what the exam was for.Heck i thought the entrance test to BASE was IIT.But two years in that place transformed my life. From a no one in my school I got a state rank of 68 in AIEEE(ok its my blog so i am allowed to brag a little ). Thats what great teachers in BASE did to me.
Also i found that my success in the exam  goes to the friends who i learnt a lot of stuff from.
That brings me to the next teachers your FRIENDS.Even me writing this blog was because of my friends in citrix who say that i talk a lot and spoil their mornings and should start writing .Thanks guys.

'Growth is a strange thing' says one of the characters in an anime i am a big fan of.And it is.Growth in all aspects not only monetary(My marwari friends would kill me for this) is important. And mentors or teachers are as much responsible for your growth as you are.

PS:My first blog.My grammar is not that great(Blame it on the english teachers :))
